It was kinda weird in English today. We are starting to write an argument paper in groups. Each group was given a topic. Our topic was about how Arkansas voted for gay marriage, but against anyone other than a Man and Woman married couple from adopting. I’m always for kids getting good homes, so the idea that only Straight married couples are allowed to adopt really gets on my nerves. This whole thing not only excludes gay couples, but single parents as well. Does it really matter your relationship status or sexuality? Should it not be what’s good for the child rather than using stereotypes to leaves these children in an already overcrowded adoption system? The other side is full of watery arguments that have no leg to stand on. Because “OMG they’re gonna make our kids gayz!”, or “That ain’t no normal family! Who’s Mama and who’s Papa? They need ones of each!”, or my favorite “They’re molesting our chillens!”

What I found most interesting was my group. The guy that usually disagrees with 85% of what I say was coming down from some morphine, so he was talking slooooow, like a cartoon turtle slow. I was surprised to hear that he agreed with me. He told me about how he grew up in northern California, where he avoided gay people like the plague. When he was in Iraq he was saved by a man who happened to be gay. After that he’s thought differently. I thought it was a heartwarming story.

The other person in out group is a Chinese girl who I’ve been helping throughout the semester. Her English is a wee bit off, but she speaks well enough for me under her point. I was surprised to hear that she was for gay marriage, but against gay adoption. I guess saying “for” might be the wrong way to say it. Her main argument was that it was against the law. It was so weird speaking to her like this. Trying to explain why Gay marriage is okay, why they should not only be looked at for their sexuality, but for whom they are. We walked out to the parking lot as I kept trying to explain why people are for or against gay people and their marriage. It almost felt weird, cause at a few points I wanted to tell her that I like gay man buttseck porn. Regardless, I kept trying to say that they’re people just as people of different races or gender are still people. How you think depends on your background in influences. Some people are religious enough to believe that homosexual people will go to hell just for their sexuality. She chuckled at this idea. She could not understand how people could feel like that because of religion. I then asked how she would feel about a guy if he was cute and she wanted to marry him and have kids. She started to go on about how she would feel with this far off look. I then told her what if a man felt like that about another man. Would it really be hurting anyone? At that point I think I blew her logic. She was wordless and just stared at me, trying to think of something to say. I told her to think about it and I a wished her a good day. I got into my car and went home.

It’s also too weird thinking about all this, but I think I may have don maybe a little good helping her think about a belief.
